We developed our new map service for the Berliner Kiebitze to ensure that sensitive patient information is not lost when visualising geodata.

Features

The service is based on a vector-based map. This has several advantages:

  • zooming in and out of the map section is possible without reloading images
  • it is easy to switch between dark and light themes as well as between different languages
  • the map can be adapted to specific designs much more easily than before
  • overlaying with so-called PMTiles, an open archive format for geodata; you can find an example of this in the PMTiles Viewer.

have full control over their website maps at reduced hosting costs.

can tell interactive stories with customised cartography that works without being dependent on a third-party API.

can use the PMTiles format to visualise climate and environmental data and build tools to make cartographic data more understandable.
